Easily one of the hardest days of the year, but one of the most celebrated.
My mom was Debbie. She was an amazing woman, mama, friend, sister, etc. Today, I celebrate you. Today…I honor you…
Thank you for being you. Thank you for being such an amazing mother during your time on this earth. Thank you for loving us hard, but softly. Today is a hard day, but I take this time to celebrate you and the things you’ve taught me – even in your absence.
To this day, I hear your voice if I even attempt to leave the house in a headscarf (that I wear to bed) and socks with slippers. I hear you telling me, “I better not catch you out the house in that…” in the back of my mind. Hehe!
People wonder where I get my love of wedding shows, events, etc. from – it’s all you girl. My obsession with Project Runway where we cheer on all the black folks (even if they stink) – that came from you.
Showing tough love to my friends and family, but doing it in such a way that it comes across as real and true – you taught me that.
Respecting and loving myself, the skin that I’m in, taking care of myself -physically and mentally – that came from you.
I honor you, I adore you, I miss you. My sunshine.
