It is both a blessing and a curse; a positive and a negative; a ying and uhhh…a yang?
Anywho, it’s a thing – THEE thing and it’s not going anywhere any time soon.
Why do I bring this up?
It’s because we live in such an age where access to everything, including each other’s lives, is an “essential” part of our lives. Social media is great, right? The platform is great if you’re looking for quick makeup tutorials, fashion inspiration, food inspiration, fitness tips, etc. It’s a great place to gain encouragement from both familiar and unfamiliar faces…
However, there is a down-side to social media. It’s a breeding ground for negativity and despair. A place where hope goes to die. I mentioned in one of my videos yesterday that I ran into a couple people via social media, that were feeling kind of “down in the dumps”.
My first instinct was to let that person know that they are awesome and have purpose! If you’d have told me a few years back that I’d be this “enlightened” person, waiting to be an encouragement to the next person, I would have told you to stay on your meds.
I can be selfish and mean and all sorts of ugly…BUT, I’ve finally realized that my life is not my own and my purpose is not to solely live for myself.
I’m here on this earth to do several things:
- As a Christian, spread the Gospel and Christ’s love to the ends of the earth.
- As a woman/friend, nurture and take care of those around me when they are in need.
- Be a steward of the earth (slowly trying to adopt a more zero-waste lifestyle).
I understand that sometimes being on social media can be daunting. We compare ourselves to the person we see who has a seemingly “perfect” life. However, there are people like me and groups of people like me who just want everyone to feel loved and wanted and respected.
Sometimes, all it takes is a little encouragement from a complete stranger to turn your day and maybe even your life, around. Be the positive catalyst that someone needs in their life today!
