Happy New Year folks!
Yes, I’m a week late, but who cares!
I could do a Review of 2017 type of post but I’m going to refrain. Generally speaking, 2017 was full of heavy highs and lows – from losing my job, to getting it back, to moving and having new experiences. Needless to say, it was a rollercoaster ride.
However, today’s post is all about the last couple of weeks of 2017.
Y’all…*sigh* it was the best and worst way to end the year. Here’s why…
I was off for about 2 weeks – no work, no getting bugged by people, no nothing. Just relaxation and seeing some of my favorite people.
2 days before – I start to feel a bit of a tickle in my throat. I don’t typically get sick, so when I do, it lasts for about 2 days. However, in this case, that was just the beginning of what felt like the last days.
The day I flew out to go back home, I felt like utter doo-doo. The little tickle in my throat was now a full-blown sinus infection. The congestion, the pressure was so real, I felt like I wasn’t going to be able to make it back. You know that feeling you get when you’re on a plane and the pressure hits your ears? That’s what I felt like but 10x worse.
I get home and the ish hits the fan folks. I was down and out for a week – couldn’t eat, couldn’t walk around, tired beyond belief – it was bad.
I had to go to urgent care at some point because it was that bad. They told me that I didn’t have the flu, which meant that I had to just ride it out.
As crappy as I felt, I wasn’t going to let it stop me from hanging out with my friends. 2018 is a big year and that means I won’t be going home anytime soon or travelling as much as I have in the past. I had plans to see virtually all of my favorite people; I wasn’t allowing sickness to put a damper on those plans.
I mustered enough energy to drive to DC and NYC to visit friends and have new experiences. I got to go to DC for the first time NOT for work. I had amazing food, went to the African American Museum (next post) and was able to chill with my friends. NYC is one of my favorite places to visit, so I already knew I was going to have a good time. Even though the year ended on a semi-high note because of my friends, the crappiness didn’t suddenly disappear.
I was sad to leave, but obvs had to get back. My trip back was hellish because 1) I was still sick, 2) my bags were delayed, 3) the courtesy van broke down 4) and I was so tired that I had to stop at a rest area and sleep so I didn’t run off the road.
When I finally got back home, I wanted to cry because it was the crappiest trip back everrrrrr….ugh.
Happy New Year to me, right?!
I’m finally over the sickness (over 2 weeks later) and can finally get back to my regular routine. I’ve been insanely tired which sucks, but I’m happy to be back. Big things are happening in 2018 so I’m pumped to get ‘er done!
2017 is officially dead and gone and I’m so looking forward to what’s in store for this year!
